Types of Medicare Coverage

  • Medicare Part A (Hospital)

    Covers inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and some home healthcare services.

  • Medicare Part B (Medical)

    Covers certain doctors’ services, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventive services.

  • Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage)

    An alternative to Original Medicare offered by private insurance companies. Plans include Part A and Part B coverage and often include prescription drug coverage and additional benefits.

  • Medicare Part D (Drug Coverage)

    Helps cover the cost of prescription medications. Part D is available through private insurance companies as a stand-alone plan or may be included in a Medicare Advantage plan.

Key Medicare Enrollment Milestones

  • Initial Enrollment Period (IEP)

    Your 7-month window surrounding your 65th birthday.

  • Still Working at 65?

    You may be able to delay Part B without penalty if you have qualifying employer coverage.

  • Leaving Employer Coverage?

    You may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period to transition to Medicare.

  • Medigap Open Enrollment

    Your 6-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period begins once you're 65 or older and enrolled in Part B.
